There is one address, and it is read in the evening rather than during the working day. A journal that waits twelve months before writing about a game is not going to promise a reply within an hour.

Letters about the essays

Most of what arrives here is a reader describing a companion the essays have not covered — an animal that followed them for forty hours, a character whose absence in the last act landed harder than any death in the plot, a travelling partner whose small repeated line became unbearable in a way the writer clearly intended. Those letters are the reason several essays exist and the best of them are quoted, always with permission asked first.

You do not need an argument to write. A description of what you remembered a year later is exactly the kind of evidence this journal is built on, and it is more useful than a thesis.

Corrections

Essays here quote dialogue from memory and from notes, and both can be wrong. If a line is misquoted, a scene misremembered, or a companion's fate described incorrectly, that is worth an email and it is fixed with a dated note at the foot of the piece rather than silently. Three corrections have been made across the volumes so far and each is still visible where it was made.

Misreadings, as distinct from misquotations, are a different matter. A reader who thinks the bedroll essay draws the wrong conclusion is disagreeing, which is welcome and does not produce an edit.

What is not answered

Requests for coverage from studios and publishers, because the practice requires a game to be bought, finished and then left alone for a year before anything is written about it, and no request can shorten that. There is no review-copy list here and no way to be added to one.

Also unanswered, and deleted after the first line: sponsored-post offers, affiliate proposals, link exchanges, and anything describing itself as a content partnership.

How long a reply takes

Corrections: within a week. Letters about the essays: often a fortnight, sometimes longer, and occasionally not at all. The mail is read in full either way, and a letter that goes unanswered has frequently changed what appeared in a later volume.

Your address and your words

The address stays in a mail client until the exchange is over and is then deleted with it. Nothing is added to a list, nothing is shared, nothing is connected to what you read here — the site carries no analytics at all, which the privacy page describes in terms you can verify rather than trust.

Nothing you write is quoted without asking, and asking means a separate email answered yes rather than silence taken as consent. If you would rather your words stay private, say so in the first line and they will.
